COMMUNICATION SHOWCASES AMERICAN FABRIC

Twenty-three enterprising communication students are creating group projects and one-minute film clips for the online film festival, American Fabric (www.americanfabric.tv/pages.php?p=About+Us). The Junior and Senior students are currently enrolled in COMM 414, a Business and Professional Speaking course taught by Dr. Connie Eigenmann at Fort Hays State University. They are responsible to conceptualize, write, cast, act, produce, costume, direct, film, edit and provide music for the project. Practice in critical thinking skills, democratization of work performance, and problem solving in small groups within a 6-week time frame is the objective. Preliminary showing of all films is at 9:30-10:20 am Monday, October 26 and Wednesday, October 28 in 114 Stroup Hall. The public is invited.

Preface to Practical Communication Skills

Materials and methods in North American, European and Oceanic universities require many sophisticated, culturally-related communication skills. These 12 units of timely subject material will guide instructors in China in classroom activities and assignments helpful toward filling the communication gap. They accent the communication skill of listening with movie excerpts; and poems, dialogues, and speeches are provided on the accompanying CD. Each unit begins with a list of communication skills to be acquired within its four divisions: Academic, strategic, entertainment, and cultural communication. The content of the units guides a student through many typical situations encountered from matriculation to graduation. The disciplines of Journalism, Mass Communications, Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, Theatre, and English often rely upon performance exams and multi-project grading systems emphasized in the suggested teaching aids. Summers in Bangkok

As a Visiting Professor at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, I teach Communication Theory in the Graduate School's Development Communication program. Students produced original PSAs, Hays Code Case Studies, and mini-research papers and presentations. By interfacing with international businesses this program of Thai students has created a solid basis for future development in Thailand. Original proposals for thesis research included mass media effects and uses. The response from the students and their interest in the course indicate contineouing support for the longest running graduate international program at Kasetsart University.

Introductory Post

Nimen hao from China!
Many walls keep others out and precious things inside, but communication walls should be open. There will always be someone who needs information or human contact to procede with the next step of life. That is the purpose of this open communication window to the world: a free, 24-hour a day place in the universe to promote uplifting, peaceful intercultural communication.
